Alumni shine in annual nursing and midwifery awards

Flinders University nursing and midwifery alumni have starred in the 2023 South Australian and Northern Territory Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.

In South Australia, Flinders University graduates won a majority of the 11 award categories, and were nominated in nine:

SA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards winners

  • Fiona Bolton (BNg(PostReg)’94, GradCertHlthAdmin’16): Excellence in Practice – Registered Nurse.
  • Amy Schwarz (BMid(Prereg)’04): Excellence in Practice – Registered Midwife.
  • Samantha Miller (DipNg’90, BNg(PostReg)’92): Excellence in Practice – Aged Care.
  • Professor Jenny Fereday (DipAppSc(Nurs)’85, BNg’89, MEdMgmt’00): Excellence in Research and Knowledge Translation.
  • Andrew Wiley (DipNg’89, BNg(PostReg)’90): Excellence in Leadership and Governance.
  • Chelsea Meinjtes (MNg(Paediatrics)’17): Excellence in Leadership – Emerging Leader (joint-winner).
  • Catherine Miller (MPallC’02): Excellence in Leadership – Emerging Leader (joint-winner).

SA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards nominees

  • Dr Angela Brown (BMid(Postreg) ‘01): Excellence in Education.
  • Sharon Bilney (MPublicHlth’18): Excellence in Practice – Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Nurse/Midwife (Mary Buckskin Award).
  • Tess Gurung (MNg(DiabetesMgmtEd)’19): Excellence in Practice – Aged Care.
  • Shelly-Anne Rowe (BNg(PreReg)’21): Excellence in Practice – Aged Care.
  • Dr Megan Cooper (BNg(PreReg)’99): Excellence in Research and Knowledge Translation.
  • Associate Professor Janet Kelly (MNg(Cwk)’04, PhD(Ng/Midwif)’09): Excellence in Research and Knowledge Translation.
  • Keirstie Bull (BNg(PreReg)’98, MHlthAdmin’11): Excellence in Leadership and Governance.
  • Kerry McKeough (GradCertGlobHlth ‘20): Excellence in Leadership and Governance.
  • Jayne Littledike (BNg(PreReg)’08): Excellence in Leadership – Emerging Leader.

NT Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards nominees

  • Rhianon Hutcheson: Charles Darwin Nurse of the Year Award.
  • Sue Lenthall: NT Administrators Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Nursing/Midwifery.
  • Erica Petrovic: Flinders University Excellence in Nurse/Midwife Education.
