Sustainability is front and centre

Flinders University Vice-President Corporate Services Mark Gregory recently spoke to The Driven podcast about the installation of landmark Electric Vehicle charging stations, showcasing award-winning bidirectional vehicle-to-grid technology, that were recently unveiled in Car Park 9.

The installation of the charging stations is the latest example of Flinders University’s ongoing commitment to sustainability as outlined in Flinders University’s Sustainability Plan to 2025. Previous initiatives include the connection of a 2.2 MW solar car park and rooftop solar on campus, with more than 7600 solar panels in total, generating almost 20% of the campus’ electricity needs on site in 2019, and the achievement of 100% renewable electricity for Flinders’ South Australian operations thanks to the combination of power from wind from the South Australian Willogoleche wind farm and on-site solar in 2021. Recently, the University signed an agreement with the City of Marion for recycled water pipeline extension to water ovals and supply future Flinders Village buildings to reduce reliance on mains water.

Work will commence shortly on the next iteration of the University’s Sustainability Strategy to 2030, with all staff and students able to have their say on the draft Strategy in the coming months.
