Updated Freedom of Speech policy

Flinders University’s Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech Policy has been updated, to bring it into alignment with the University’s new Enterprise Agreement (EA).

The new EA includes changes to provide greater clarity on conduct that is within the bounds of academic and intellectual freedom, plus the insertion of a right to intellectual freedom for professional staff, which had not previously been a feature of the EA.

The EA is legally binding on the University. Consequently, the Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech Policy has been amended to bring it strictly into line with updated provisions in the EA, as it relates to staff. This includes a re-naming of the policy to the Academic and Intellectual Freedom and Freedom of Speech Policy.

The revised policy can be accessed in the Policy Library under Governance and Risk or People and Culture.
