New campus updates for the new year

Campus Presentation Maintenance Program

Between now and 18 February, we will be doing a range of maintenance activities to make sure our campuses are looking great for the start of the teaching year. These will include: window cleaning, painting, pressure cleaning of concrete and footpaths, garden maintenance, line marking, and minor repair works. Contractors and our own teams will be working across Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses.

For the most part, these works should cause little or no disruption to your daily activities, and wherever possible we schedule them for weekends or after hours. Keep an eye out for pedestrian exclusion zones and redirections.

The main internal maintenance will be the painting of the Student Hub and FUSA toilets which will involve staged toilet closures and redirection to nearby facilities.

If you have any questions about the Campus Presentation Maintenance Program, please contact Property, Facilities and Development on 8201 2733.

Test & Tag and Safety Switch maintenance

RCD (safety switch) maintenance and Test & Tag of electrical equipment is a program of essential safety maintenance that we do to meet our mandatory compliance obligations. This year, we have combined both programs and engaged contractors to help us work through the program as efficiently as possible.

To minimise disruption to you, we will be working through the Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses building-by-building from now until June.

RCD Testing (which involves a brief power outage) will be done from midnight to 8am. If you manage power sensitive or critical equipment and require specific timing arrangements to minimise impact, please contact Luke Lilburn immediately.

Testing & Tagging will be done during business hours with technicians moving through each building asking to test certain equipment – latop chargers, monitors etc. It will only take a few minutes to do.

For the month of February, we will be working through these areas:

  • Flinders Press
  • URRSA Archive
  • McHughs
  • Education
  • Law & Commerce
  • Social Sciences South
  • Social Sciences North
  • Oasis
  • PFD Operations.

Car park entry signage

Works continue to upgrade our car park entry signage. This week, contractors will be working at Flinders Living (P11, P17, P19), Sturt precinct (P13) and South Ridge precinct (P3S, P8, P9N, P15). They will be digging footings, concreting and installing signs.

Traffic management will be in place with ‘Slow’ signs but there will be no need to redirect traffic. In some places, footpaths will be partial closed, but access via an altered path will be maintained.

Campus Bus Services – trials and new app!

Thanks for your help with the campus bus trials. To continually improve our service, we’ve been trialling routes and timetables and collecting travel time data. Flinders campus bus service provides a key transport connection between Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses. We appreciate your patience with the trials and have taken onboard your feedback.

With the trials now complete, we are transitioning to a new provider, Willunga Charter, who use their own timetabling app. The changeover date is Monday 19 February, so we ask everyone to download the Willunga Charter app over the next week (from willungacharter.com.au) to ensure you are viewing the updated services and schedules and the location of the next bus in real time. The app will be live with our buses from the first service on Monday 19 February and we will not use the BusMinder app from this date. There is no requirement to login or use a password.

15 Additional Reasons to Charge to Car Parks 2 and 3

As part of our commitment to sustainability another 15 electric vehicle (EV) charging bays have been installed at Bedford Park.

Jointly funded by the South Australian Government, this initiative forms a key part of the state’s $3.2 million EV Smart Charging Trial. The trial focusses on coordinating EV charging to optimise the use of 100% renewable electricity. These smart chargers optimise the best time to charge vehicles (however your car will still receive a minimum of 3kW of power over the day.)

Across car parks P2, P3, P6, P9 and P14, 34 standard, variable or rapid charging bays are available for staff and students. You need a valid parking session to use the majority of the chargers and rapid chargers use a pay-as-you-go system. Please see the parking webpage for full details. For University fleet EVs, 10 additional bi-directional chargers are also located in car park P9 as part of the University’s Vehicle-to-Grid trial.
