New Engineering Building lift

The Engineering Building has a new lift, which has a greatly improved ride quality – being smooth and quiet – and has restored access for everyone to all facilities, as it is the only lift access to Level 4 of the Engineering Building.

HASS Building facelift

The blue mesh and scaffolding is finally coming down this week to reveal the HASS Building’s much-needed facelift.  Investigations into the condition of the concrete facade and columns led to the removal of unsafe material, repairs, new sealants and protective coating, replaced fluted detail on the columns to match the original, re-pointing of bricks and repainting of timber windows.

Test & Tag and Safety Switch maintenance

RCD (safety switch) maintenance and Test & Tag of electrical equipment is a program of essential safety maintenance to meet our mandatory compliance obligations. To minimise disruption, we will work through the Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses building-by-building from now until June. RCD Testing (which involves a brief power outage) will be done from midnight to 8am. If you manage power sensitive or critical equipment and require specific timing arrangements to minimise impact, please contact Luke Lilburn (luke.lilburn@flinders.edu.au) immediately.

Testing & Tagging will be done during business hours with technicians moving through each building asking to test certain equipment – latop chargers, monitors etc. It will only take a few minutes to do. Work will be conducted through these areas during February:

  • Flinders Press
  • URRSA Archive
  • McHughs
  • Education
  • Law & Commerce
  • Social Sciences South
  • Social Sciences North
  • Oasis
  • PFD Operations

Campus Presentation Maintenance Program

This week – and weekend – a range of maintenance activities will be done to make sure our campuses look great for the start of the teaching year. Contractors and our own teams will work across Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses to perform window cleaning, painting, pressure cleaning of concrete and footpaths, garden maintenance, line marking and minor repair works. These works should cause little or no disruption to daily activities, and wherever possible they  have been scheduled for weekends or after hours. Look out for pedestrian exclusion zones and redirections. Painting at the Student Hub and FUSA toilets will involve staged toilet closures and redirection to nearby facilities. For questions about the Campus Presentation Maintenance Program, please contact Property, Facilities and Development on 8201 2733.

University Road – footpath and cycle lane closure

SA Local Health Network has commenced preliminary works for the Margaret Tobin Centre expansion, which will result in partial road closure on University Drive during 2024 and into 2025. The footpath and cycle lane on University Drive will be impacted and barriers installed to close off this area. Traffic management and 25km/h speed restrictions will be in place. Please slow down, be aware and stay safe. For further information, contact the Southern Redevelopment Team on 8204 5288 (ext. 65288) or SALHN.SouthernRedevelopment@sa.gov.au
