Works around campus this week

New University Drive Pedestrian Lights

The lights are on! The Department for Infrastructure & Transport has switched on the new pedestrian lights just in time for the 2024 teaching year, so we now have safe access for students and staff across University Drive near HMRB. If you’re driving into Bedford Park campus please slow down and be aware of banking traffic during peak times.

Bathroom Makeovers for Flinders Living

Stage 2 of upgrades to Flinders Living Bathrooms have been completed with the demolition and renovation of eight bathrooms. Everything has been replaced with stylish and functional fittings – modern tiles, shower screens, hand basins, vanities, toilets, exhaust fans. Shower cubicles have been enlarged, and new lighting and mirrors installed (pictured at right). We hope our returning student residents to Flinders Village enjoy their new facilities.

New App for Campus Bus Services

To access the new Flinders University bus service timetable, remember to delete the old Bus Minder app and download the Willunga Charter app. The new app will show real time locations for each bus service, just like the old one did. You can find it in the Apple App Store and for Android devices in Google Play  Instructions for first-time users:

  1. Download the free Willunga Charter app
  2. Open the app and click the home tab at the bottom of the screen
  3. There is no requirement to login or use a password
  4. Select ‘Tertiary Services’
  5. Select ‘Flinders University’
  6. Select the route you wish to use, to view the Flinders campus buses in real time

Remember to swipe your Flinders ID when boarding and exiting the bus.

Sturt Campus – Water Services Outage

The new recycled water network is almost ready, but first there will be a water outage for Sturt Campus while the Office of Technical Regulator (OTR) tests the system. On Thursday 22 February there will be no water services at Sturt Campus from 8pm to 11pm. Where possible, please avoid the campus during this time. All Sturt campus buildings will be affected for: tap water, toilet flushing and showers. Equipment that requires water A/C temperature controls will not be available (however fans will be operating).

Test & Tag and Safety Switch maintenance

RCD (safety switch) maintenance and Test & Tag of electrical equipment is a program of essential safety maintenance to meet our mandatory compliance obligations. To minimise disruption, we will work through the Bedford Park, Sturt and Tonsley campuses building-by-building from now until June. RCD Testing (which involves a brief power outage) will be done from midnight to 8am. If you manage power sensitive or critical equipment and require specific timing arrangements to minimise impact, please contact Luke Lilburn (luke.lilburn@flinders.edu.au) immediately.

Testing & Tagging will be done during business hours with technicians moving through each building asking to test certain equipment – latop chargers, monitors etc. It will only take a few minutes to do. Work will be conducted through these areas during February:

  • Flinders Press
  • URRSA Archive
  • McHughs
  • Education
  • Law & Commerce
  • Social Sciences South
  • Social Sciences North
  • Oasis
  • PFD Operations

University Road – footpath and cycle lane closure

SA Local Health Network has commenced preliminary works for the Margaret Tobin Centre expansion, which will result in partial road closure on University Drive during 2024 and into 2025. The footpath and cycle lane on University Drive will be impacted and barriers installed to close off this area. Traffic management and 25km/h speed restrictions will be in place. Please slow down, be aware and stay safe. For further information, contact the Southern Redevelopment Team on 8204 5288 (ext. 65288) or SALHN.SouthernRedevelopment@sa.gov.au
