New book brings unique look at SA’s German history
Congratulations to Professors Peter Monteath and Matt Fitzpatrick from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences on their new book, An Indigenous South: German writers on colonial South Australia, published by Wakefield Press. With cultural cultural advice from Kaurna and Narungga man Dennis O’Brien, the book sheds light on how early German settlers to South Australia, including settlers, missionaries, and anthropologists, shaped colonial relations with Indigenous Australians. You can read more about the book here or listen to Professor Monteath talk about the book on ABC Radio Adelaide.

Strategic Editorial Chair appointment

Strategic Professor Hydro(geo)logy Okke Batelaan has been appointed Chair of Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Hydrology. The Journal of Hydrology (Elsevier) is one of the largest and most prestigious journals in the field of surface, groundwater hydrology and water management.
As the number of submissions keeps growing strongly, the large editorial team needs better coordination. The task of the Chair is to streamline editorial processes, stimulate innovation for quality improvement and guide discussion on consistent journal approaches to artificial intelligence and ethics issues. The task is also to improve geographic and gender diversity and the representation of the Editorial Board.
In the past 12 years, Okke helped to establish, grow and lead as Editor-in-Chief for Asia-Pacific, the ‘Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies’ to become a top Q1 open-access journal. This experience will greatly benefit working with the ‘Journal of Hydrology’.
