National Safe Work Month

October is National Safe Work Month and this year’s theme is safety is everyone’s business – highlighting the collective role everyone needs to play to provide safe workplaces and practices.

Safe work month reminds us of the core functions of safety, which is identifying hazards, managing and controlling the risks, consulting with staff on safety issues, and providing training to keep people safe. This is something everyone in the University needs to play an active role in.

The Regulator, SafeWork SA, are running a number of free seminar sessions and activities, including mock trails and webinars on a range of topics from psychosocial, preventing muscular skeletal disorders and the role of manual handling training. Please see the schedule of activities for this October.

Staff are also reminded they can access a range of University training material provided by the WHS Unit. These are available through the Flinders University WHS web site. It includes online modules and a large range of videos on the  Safety Hub. There is material covering everything from office safety, psychosocial hazards, manual handling, noise, driving safety and much more.

The WHS Unit would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) for their active participation in safety throughout the year. A morning tea will be held with our HSRs to celebrate SafeWork month later in October.

Once again thank you for helping the University make safety everyone’s business.
