Yungkurrinthi is pleased to announce the 30th Anniversary Duguid Memorial Lecture, set to take place on Monday 11 November 2024 at the Flinders City Campus. Professor Janine Mohamed, a highly respected voice in the field of Indigenous health, will deliver this year’s lecture, titled “My truth: Racial Gaslighting and First Nations Inequity in Australia”.
This year’s topic is both timely and critical, addressing the complex dynamics of racial gaslighting and how it perpetuates inequities faced by First Nations people across Australia. Professor Mohamed will explore the psychological, social, and institutional aspects of this, shedding light on the ways in which systemic racism continues to affect Indigenous communities. Her lecture promises to challenge perceptions and ignite crucial conversations about justice, equality, and the lived experiences of First Nations Australians.
The Duguid Memorial Lecture is a biennial event, shared between Flinders University and the University of South Australia that honours the legacy of Dr Charles Duguid OBE and Mrs Phyllis Duguid OAM, who were tireless advocates for Aboriginal rights. Their work paved the way for many of the advancements we see today, and this lecture continues their mission of raising awareness and fostering meaningful dialogue around the challenges still facing First Nations communities.
