Working remotely or travelling can expose you to significant cyber security risks. Here’s some tips to keep you and your data safe:

Travelling

• Connect only to Wi-Fi networks that require you to enter a secure password.
• Avoid using public computers.
• Lock your devices and store them securely.
• Be aware of your surroundings- choose private spaces to work and consider using a privacy filter over your screen.
• Avoid using removable media like USB drives to transfer files.

Working from home

• Protect your home network by changing default Wi-Fi and router passwords to strong passphrases.
• Don’t let family or friends use your work laptop.
• Use Flinders VPN for secure network access.

Mobile device security

• Lock your device with a strong password, PIN, or biometric authentication such as face ID or fingerprint.
• Regularly update your device’s operating system and apps.
• Enable remote wipe/erase on your device in case it is lost or stolen.
• Limit app permissions and be cautious about the apps you download.
