This year’s NT Medical Career Expo in Darwin attracted more than 100 visitors, including medical and science students, and junior doctors.
Hosted by Flinders University’s NT Regional Training Hub, more than 25 exhibitors from across the health sector provided information about the diverse and rewarding career pathways available in the Northern Territory.
“This was a chance for students and junior doctors to explore their options, ask questions, and gain insight into the many medical career pathways available right here in the NT,” says Professor Robyn Aitken, Dean of Rural and Remote Health at Flinders University.

Now in its seventh year, the event’s interactive format meant exhibitors offered hands-on experiences, including suturing, resuscitation, cannulation, ultrasound, diagnostic games, and even Rorschach tests.
Loni Schramm, a third-year medical student currently on placement at Alice Springs Hospital, attended the NT Medical Career Expo in both 2023 and 2024 alongside her peers.
Loni, who is also President of the Central Australian Remote Health Student Society, is now exploring rural generalist training pathways and hopes to work in remote NT communities in the future.

She said the expo was a chance to speak directly with hospital consultants, remote clinicians and other leaders to “help understand what kind of doctor I want to become.”
Flinders University has been deeply committed to the Northern Territory for over 27 years, contributing to the health of Territorians through locally delivered education, training, and research in healthcare. So far, 233 Flinders University medical students have graduated in the NT, with around half of these graduates continuing to live and work in the Territory after completing their return of service.
The NT event was organised by NT staff including Debby Mauger and Eliza Gill, with Melba Ridd and Uncle Richie Fejo MCs for the day.
