Representing the nation

Professor James Smith

Professor James Smith was recently elected as the only Australian to the Global Executive Board of the International Union for Health Promotion & Education (IUHPE) during the 25th World Health Promotion Conference in Abu Dhabi. IUHPE is a unique worldwide, independent professional association of individuals and organisations committed to improving health and well-being through education, community action and the development of healthy public policy. IUHPE has a longstanding vision and commitment to reduce inequalities in health and wellbeing both with and between countries.

Subsequent to his appointment to the Global Executive Board, Professor Smith has also been elected by his international peers into the role of IUHPE Global Vice President of Scientific Affairs for the next three years. The principal duty of the Vice President for Scientific Affairs is to advance the theory and practice of health promotion and health education globally. He will play a pivotal role as Chair of the Oversight Committee of Global Health Promotion – IUHPE’s flagship peer-reviewed journal; and as Co-Chair of the Scientific Program Committee for the 26th World Health Promotion Conference to be held in 2028.

A South Australian first

Alumni Stuart Blair (BLang ’14, BA(Hons) ’15, MLangSt ‘20) has written a bilingual storybook adventure in French and English, including Auslan (Australian sign language), set in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. The book is a South Australian first.  The hardcover book combines the magic of a bande dessinée (French Comic Book) with the charm of a traditional storybook, and the text is suitable for Year 6 through adult language students. Check out the launch event for the book here.
