Celebrating Our Second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

As of 30 June 2025, we have formally concluded our second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This is a significant four-year chapter in Flinders’ ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

This RAP has focused on deepening our relationships, embedding cultural understanding, and creating structures that drive sustainable change across the University. Some of the most impactful outcomes include:

Developed Strategies
• Indigenous Workforce Strategy
• Indigenous Procurement Strategy
• Indigenous Student Success Targets (ISST)
• Indigenous Research Strategy

Cultural and Community Impact
• Elders on Campus Framework, recognising and elevating cultural authority
• Cultural Narratives developed across HMRB, Flinders City Campus, Tonsley, and Inparrila
• First Nations Researchers Collective, fostering Indigenous research leadership
• Country Centred Design Principles, now guiding the University Master Plan

Partnerships and Events
• Aboriginal Power Cup – strengthening pathways for Aboriginal youth
• Hosting the 2025 Annual RAP Conference with over 605 registrations
• Ongoing input into APAC
• Education Scholarships – $1,068,148.31 awarded to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

These milestones represent not only action, but shared purpose, and we extend our sincere thanks to the staff, students, Elders, and community partners who have helped shape this work.

Looking Ahead: Our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan
While our Innovate RAP has formally concluded, our reconciliation journey continues — embedded in our daily work, relationships, and decision-making. Reconciliation is not a single milestone; it is a continuous and collective movement. We remain deeply committed with integrity, respect, and a shared ambition for a more inclusive future.

We are now entering the consultation phase for our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan, set to launch in May 2026. This next stage will guide us over the following three years, with a strong focus on ‘Embedding and Extending’ deepening our impact and further integrating reconciliation across the University.

We invite all staff to take part in the upcoming Consultation Sessions. Your voice and perspectives are vital in shaping this next phase.
