From ‘bump-in’ to ‘bump-out’, Events & Activations Coordinator Celeste Hudson is busy helping bring that Flinders magic to life. When she’s not busy planning events or perfecting brand vibes, she’s plotting her snowboarding debut (spa escape pending).
What is your role here at Flinders?
I’m an Event & Activation Coordinator in the Marketing and Student Recruitment (MSR) Team.
What does your day-to-day look like?
It really depends on the season! But at its core, my role is all about supporting university events and ensuring they run smoothly. Being in the Brand team, we act as brand custodians, ensuring that the events we deliver show who we are at Flinders.
If you’re trying to spot me, you’ll usually find me at my desk in the Sir Eric Neal Engineering Building, meticulously planning or coordinating. But you might also catch me running around site with a tape measure in hand planning for the next event!
My favourite part, though, is the set-up (or ‘bump-in’) for an event. There’s something about seeing it all come together that is super satisfying.
How have you settled in?
The team here has been so warm and welcoming! I’m fortunate to work across different campuses, which has allowed me to meet so many lovely people.
How did you get into this line of work?
After graduating from Flinders University (feels quite full circle) with a Bachelor of Tourism & Events and a Bachelor of Business (Innovation & Enterprise), I kickstarted my career at the South Australian Tourism Commission. There, I worked as an Event Coordinator, which gave me the chance to dive deep into large-scale event planning and execution. I absolutely loved it. The events industry is so dynamic, and there are endless opportunities to get creative.
Who inspires you?
I wouldn’t say there’s one specific person who inspires me, but I do find a lot of inspiration in creative spaces.
I love exploring new event concepts online, especially through social media. It’s fascinating to see what’s trending globally and then adapt those ideas to create something special here.
What are you most looking forward to for the rest of 2025?
I’m about to experience my very first Open Day – from planning to execution, I can’t wait to see it all come together!
Outside of work, I’ve got a couple of holidays lined up. I’m especially excited about my first-ever snowboarding trip in Queenstown – wish me luck! (you might find me at the spa instead…)
How do you like to spend your spare time?
My husband and I love to try new – and return to old – cafés in the Adelaide Hills, with our cheeky dog Arthur. Before the café, you’ll find me at the local Reformer Pilates studio for movement and to socialise!
I’m also a bit obsessed with interior design, so when I’m not planning events, I’m captivated by the latest home décor trends and colour pallets.
