What is SET?
For us to fully understand the student experience, we need to hear from our students. So, at the end of each teaching period, we open a survey for every topic that’s run across the semester to find out what’s working and what’s not working for our students. This includes feedback on their topic materials, teaching staff, available support mechanisms, and everything else that contributes to delivering an exceptional student experience.
These Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) surveys are now open to students for semester 2 and most non-semester 2 topics. This semester, they’re available in the new SET tool, which offers a simpler, more streamlined experience thanks to its direct integration with FLO.
Students will receive an email invitation to complete their survey, as well as notifications inside FLO, and could win one of ten $50 gift cards while helping to improve their learning experience at Flinders University.
How to encourage responses
There are two things that teaching staff can do to increase the likelihood of good SET response rates.
First, please talk to your students about the SET. Let your students know that their feedback is important, it’s anonymous, and that you use their feedback to improve topic delivery and teaching.
Second, please consider creating time at the beginning or end of your class this semester, as an opportunity for students to complete their SET should they wish to do so.
Help and support
Please email set@flinders.edu.au with your SET questions, feedback, and suggestions.
