Flinders University has officially launched our new Academic Career Framework (ACF), marking a significant step in strengthening clarity, equity and consistency across academic career pathways.
The ACF has been shaped by extensive staff input throughout 2025, including early focus groups and formal consultation. This collaborative work has ensured the framework reflects the diverse experiences, roles and aspirations of our academic community. The new Framework is now effective immediately and will underpin academic promotion processes from 2026 and beyond.
Introducing the ACF Hub
To support staff in navigating the new framework, a dedicated Academic Career Framework Hub is now live. The Hub brings together all key resources, policies and guidance in one accessible location, including:
- The new Academic Career Framework
- Revised Academic Promotions Policy and Procedures
- Promotions Committee Terms of Reference (new)
- Equivalence of Academic Staff Qualifications Policy and Procedures (new, under development)
- A comprehensive suite of promotion guides for applicants, supervisors and colleges/portfolios
- Information about upcoming training and information sessions for staff and key stakeholders
- Session recordings (available after sessions)
A new Professional Experience to Academic Qualifications Equivalency Policy and Procedures is also in development and will be made available to staff shortly.
Academic Promotions 2026
Initial key dates for the 2026 Academic Promotions Round are now published on the ACF Hub, with additional dates to be released in the coming weeks. Staff considering applying for promotion are encouraged to familiarise themselves early with the new Framework and utilise the supports available.
