Works updates for level 6 of the City Campus and the Physical Sciences Building, building testing programs, Tonsley window cleaning, and three Campus Bus / Flinders Train facts you may not know! 

Physical Sciences building roof renewal update

From Monday 16 March, works commence to install hot and chilled water pipes into the ceiling spaces of the level 2 corridors (east and west) in the Physical Sciences building.

For staff and students’ safety, access through the corridors is restricted to accessing the NMR labs in the west corridor and labs in the east corridor.

Please follow the construction signage and contractor directions.

 

Tonsley window cleaning

Window cleaning on the main Flinders at Tonsley building is now underway and will continue through March. This cleaning includes abseiling.

Where possible, works are being scheduled to minimise disruption. Please follow any directions about pedestrian detours on signage and from contractors on site.

 

City Campus works update and building testing programs

Redevelopment of teaching spaces on level 6 to provide two Clinical Labs and Hi-fidelity Rooms, plus a Multipurpose Lab and Home Simulation Lab is progressing well.

In addition to our works, Festival Tower management have advised they will undertake the following testing programs in the building during March, with staff requested to avoid the building if possible during these times:

Systems Interface testing to ensure that the mechanical plant and associated systems operate correctly in an emergency, preventing the spread of smoke or fire through the building’s air conditioning system:

• Sunday 15 March – 7:00am to 3:00pm pre-testing
• Wednesday 18 March – 10:00pm to 5:00am main test.

 Impacts of testing:

• Air conditioning services will be intermittently interrupted as mechanical plant equipment starts up and shuts down
• Building fire alarms will sound intermittently
• There will be no interruption to lighting, power, or tenant condenser water services.

Annual Black Start Generator testing to verify the ability to restore power quickly after a blackout:

• Sunday 22 March – 6:30am to 5:30pm

Impacts of testing:

• Air conditioning services will be interrupted as mechanical plant equipment transitions between power sources
• Temporary interruptions to lighting, power, and tenant condenser water will occur during the changeover from mains power to generator supply
• Only essential services will be supported by the generator, in accordance with your tenancy design.

Please note that the Festival Tower management team, security personnel, and required contractors will be onsite throughout these testing periods and will respond accordingly to any issues.

 

Flinders train / Campus Bus facts you may not know!

1. If you catch the train, you may know that the Station Express and Campus Connector bus services aim to connect with Flinders line train arrivals and departures whenever possible.
   Did you know that buses waiting at Station Plaza will depart 2 minutes after trains arrive? So please disembark and board promptly!
2. You may know our three bus services* operate on loops.

3. You may know our bus services operate on set routes.
