Passwords alone are no longer sufficient to protect against skilled cyber attackers. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to verify their identity using two or more of the following factors:
- Something you know (password/PIN) and
- Something you have (mobile device/authentication app/security token)
- Something you are (fingerprint/ facial recognition)
MFA helps you to prevent
- Unauthorised access to your account
- Data breaches and identity theft
- Misuse of Flinders’ systems
What you need to do:
- Ensure MFA is set up on your account. Please refer to the MFA guides provided on the staff website
- Keep your authentication devices secure
- Approve login requests only if you initiated them
- Do not share your password or verification codes with anyone
- Report any unexpected MFA prompts immediately
