Ecosystem Design for Wellbeing: Shaping the Surroundings that then Shape Us
Join this exciting professional development opportunity, run by Cecilia Macaulay and Katie de Araujo on Thursday 18 June, 11am – 12.30pm.
In this lively, practical webinar, Cecilia Macaulay will introduce the Togetherness Approach: design principles and practices drawn from Japanese culture and whole-system thinking that reduce friction and restore ease and mutual support in daily life.
This method works where culture, environment and nervous systems meet.
Rather than focusing on motivation or self-management, participants will learn to notice how everyday environments quietly shape our state of mind, our capacity to cooperate, and even whether the world feels friendly, or like something we have to keep pushing against.
Across 90 minutes, participants will take part in hands-on tasks, simple games and a little citizen science, alongside Cecilia’s story-rich slideshow.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Notice and name how everyday environments load or relieve the nervous system, and how this affects trust, defensiveness, and collaboration
- Practise rearranging your surroundings to better support you and the people around you
- Use five powerful design principles in any area of life:
- Zones: protect and direct attention.
- Make Families: group related objects
- Reduce Useless Diversity, and more.
Expect to leave with a shared language for noticing when environments are helping or hindering us, and the desire, confidence, and satisfaction of doing something about it.
This session will be recorded and accessible for one week following the presentation. If you’re unable to attend the live webinar, please register to receive access to the recording.
