What’s your role at Flinders?

I am a Strategic Space Planner, working in the Property, Facilities and Development (PFD) portfolio.

Brief career history.

I have more than 25 years’ experience as an interior designer and have worked on a diverse range of projects including the Adelaide Oval grandstands, Adelaide Airport, the Commonwealth Law Courts in Victoria Square and as lead designer of Flinders University’s Biology Discovery Centre at the Bedford Park campus.

Outside of work I…

Am a ‘mum taxi’ to my two young daughters Elsie (7) and Grace (11), ferrying them to various sport and music commitments. In my down time I enjoy binge-watching TV, working on residential projects and catching up with friends. I’m most enthusiastic about food and travel. I believe in taking time away to recharge, going camping a couple of times a year and prioritising overseas travel. I love cooking and often read recipe books for fun.

What quote do you live by?

“F-E-A-R has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ The choice is yours” by author Zig Ziglar.

Fear can often stop people from taking chances or doing things that are out of their comfort zone. Embracing fear takes bravery but can really lead to the best experiences and learning. It’s challenging to live like this but by doing so, I’ve had the best opportunities.

Tell us about your favourite holiday.

My favourite holiday so far has to be my 2024 solo trip to Milan for Design Week surrounded by other like-minded professionals – it was so fun and inspiring. A close second has to be our family trip to Japan in 2025. It was priceless seeing Elsie and Grace’s faces as they experienced a new culture, ate different foods, marvelled at the beautiful landscapes and became excited by everything ‘kawaii’. I was proud of how adventurous they were. It was an amazing experience that we all loved! Going back to Hong Kong and Korea are next on my list.
