Examining contemporary communications studies in a global context will be the focus of an international symposium being hosted by Flinders University on Monday 6 December.

The Educating Global Communicators Symposium, chaired by Flinders University’s Dr Sky Marsen at Flinders University Victoria Square (and livestreamed), will bring together academics and professionals from around Australia and other countries to discuss how current communication studies connect with community and industry groups.

“It shows the initiative of our communication program in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to maintain a current and relevant curriculum, and ensure our teaching is on par with international developments in education and the global job market for communication graduates,” says Dr Marsen.

The symposium will examine how communication practices in the workplace are rapidly changing with developments in technology, corporatisation of the media industry and the intercultural skills required by globalised business.

Relevant issues addressed in sessions will include – examining the impact that critical communications research has on the communication industry; aligning course design with the international communication industry; and examining the strengths and connections among different communication disciplines such as applied linguistics, English, or cultural studies.
