Fulbright chair open

Applications are now open for the 2027 Fulbright Don DeBats Distinguished Chair in Politics and Public Policy at the Jeff Bleich Centre for Democracy and Disruptive Technologies, Flinders University. American scholars employed in a US university can work in Australia for up to five months on a research project connected to the four themes of democracy: defence, security and space;  artificial intelligence and disruptive technologies; and multiculturalism, gender and digital justice.

Funded by Flinders University, this year’s Fulbright Distinguished Chair Professor Geoffrey McGovern will arrive at the JBC at Flinders University in early 2026. As the 2026 Fulbright Don DeBats Distinguished Chair in Politics and Public Policy, Professor McGovern will research issues related to democracy and emerging technologies. He is a senior lecturer in the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy & Technology (CMIST) and a political and social scientist at the RAND Corporation. This will be his second Fulbright experience after studying the Finnish legal system while in graduate school.

“Fulbright is one of my favourite government programs grounded in the idea that the community of nations works best and is at peace when people spend time together, learn from each other, and exchange their ideas and perspectives,” he said.
