Concert to bid farewell in classic style

Flinders’ lunchtime concert series for 2018 is set to bring some outstanding musicians of international standing to the University,  starting on Wednesday 21 March with a swansong performance by violinist Matti Syrjanen.

This first concert for the year will take place from 1.05pm-2.00pm in the Noel Stockdale Room at the Central Library and will be the last for Matti Syrjanen in his capacity as a member of the Flinders University Chamber Ensemble.

Matti is returning with his family to his native Finland, and has built his farewell concert around rousing works by fellow countrymen Sibelius and Kajanus, combined with repertoire by Mozart, culminating in movements from a stunning Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano by American composer Eric Ewazen.

Another lunchtime concert will take place in the Noel Stockdale Room on Wednesday 28 March and will be performed by internationally acclaimed pianist, Konstantin Shamray.

Konstantin will perform Cesar Franck’s wonderful Prelude, Choral and Fugue, Op 21 (1884), and some works by Maurice Ravel and Franz Liszt.

Entry to the lunchtime concerts is by gold coin donation and the performances are open to all staff, students and the public.
