Updates from the Flinders Medical Students’ Society (FMSS)

Continuing with our journey of Mental Health Month, a friendly sports competition between MD1s and MD2s was held, strengthening the relationship between the two cohorts and having a team bonding within the cohort. It was a fun evening full of team spirit, where everyone was able to engage whether they were playing or cheering for the team.

We also hosted our first research education evening in conjunction with the Information in Surgery Journal club. It was an inspirational evening learning about evidence-based medicine delivered by our very own Deputy Course Director, A/Prof George Barreto. A special thank you to Neurology Registrar, Dr Stephen Bacchi and PhD Candidate, Dr Josh Kovoor, for introducing students to the field of research as well.

As exciting as it is to receive internship offers, unfortunately not all Flinders medical students received internship offers for 2023 yet due to additional applications from domestic students compared to last year. Regardless of the challenge, we plan to continue advocating for our international students to receive an offer of an internship position in conjunction with the South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Association (SASMOA).
