
Congratulations to Associate Professor George Barreto who has been awarded the 2025 Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) National Teaching Award.
The AMSA National Teaching Award exists to promote excellence in medical education through recognition of an individual deemed to have made a significant contribution to medical education in Australia. AMSA received numerous outstanding nominations for this award.

“It is with great pleasure that I nominate Associate Professor Savio George Barreto for the AMSA National Teaching Award, in recognition of his incredible commitment to medical education, student mentorship, and academic leadership at Flinders University. A/Prof Barreto serves as the Deputy Director of the Flinders Medical Program, and Head of the Advanced Studies Research Stream, while also being a well-renowned Consultant Gastrointestinal, HPB and Liver Transplant surgeon. He is widely respected for his engaging teaching style and genuine support of student learning.”
