The Network: Towards Unity For Health Conference 2019

The Network: Towards Unity for Health Conference

Hosted by Flinders NT in Darwin from 10 – 13 September 2019, The Network: Towards Unity for Health Conference will focus on improving global health equity.  The conference will bring an international audience to Australia, with leaders in equitable health care exploring issues surrounding first nations health, rural and remote health and practitioner training. It will also showcase some of the future leaders in socially accountable health education and research.

Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) is an international organisation that aims to foster equitable community-oriented health services by bringing together healthcare organisations, universities, community institutions, and leaders from all over the world who are dedicated to improving community health.

Held in Ireland last year, this year’s TUFH conference marks its 40th anniversary and the first time the event has been held in Australia in 15 years.

Five keynotes will be delivered by international and national experts including Tom Calma AO (Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia, Chancellor of the University of Canberra and previously the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner); and Emeritus Professor Paul Worley (National Rural Health Commissioner and former Dean of Medicine at Flinders University.)

The event’s unique format includes several ‘thematic poster sessions’ that provide researchers at any stage in their careers with a platform to share their ideas, through a highly interactive process based on a poster presentation and accompanying talk.

Abstracts are invited for the poster sessions, mini-workshops, pre-conference workshops and TUFH talks. TUFH talks are akin to TED talks but faster, more interactive and highly regarded by all who attend and participate.

The event offers outstanding networking opportunities and the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s leaders in health equity. Students from around the world will inspire with their enthusiasm and commitment to social accountability.
