Jean Pepperill, a third-year student in the Flinders Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) has won the MDA National and Rural Doctors Association health bursary of $7,000, which she will put to good use supporting her clinical placements in remote Northern Territory locations next year.
Jean spent this year training at Alice Springs Hospital and the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress primary healthcare service and plans to work as a doctor in Alice Springs following graduation.
Ms Pepperill received her award at the gala dinner of the Rural Medicine Australia 2019 annual conference held on the Gold Coast in October.
In 2020 she plans to spend around seven months on placement in Nhulunbuy in East Arnhem Land, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
“As a student in the Flinders NT medical program I am lucky to be able to pursue my passion for medicine in a program that focuses on rural/remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, close to my family and Community,” Ms Pepperill says.
