The Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector was established after the Gender Equality Bill 2019 (Vic) passed in February 2020. The Commission supports the Public Sector Gender Equality Commissioner to oversee the implementation of the Gender Equality Act 2020 and promote gender equality in the public sector workforce and the broader Victorian community.
The Commission’s PhD program is open to students whose work is (1) focused on workplace gender equality with clear links or applicability to the Victorian context, and (2) aligned with the goals and values of the Gender Equality Act 2020.
Interested applicants must also be:
- Enrolled, or enrolling in a PhD program at any Australian university to commence in 2025.
- Able to financially support their research (through either a scholarship or self-funding)
- Able to regularly utilise a desk space at the Commission’s office in the Melbourne CBD
Successful applicants will work closely with the Commission throughout their PhD candidature. They will also have the opportunity to build connections with the existing network of government and community sector organisations working on workplace gender equality and violence against women.
Specific benefits of applying for the Commission’s PhD program include:
- the opportunity to develop research which drives progress towards a gender-equal Victoria for everyone
