Ridma’s journey from Sri Lanka to Adelaide is a story of ambition, growth, and transformation. With a strong foundation in finance and years of banking experience, Ridma chose to pursue a Master of Business Administration (Finance) at Flinders University to elevate her career and expand her global perspective.
Her passion for finance began during her undergraduate studies in financial management, complemented by professional qualifications such as the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) program and Diploma in Intermediate in Applied Banking and Finance (IABF). After five years in banking, Ridma realised the need to deepen her expertise to stay competitive in the global market. That realisation led her to Flinders, where she found a program that perfectly aligned with her goals.
“The MBA (Finance) at Flinders is a well-rounded degree that blends global business knowledge with practical, future-focused tools to succeed in today’s evolving professional landscape,” she said.
Ridma was particularly drawn to subjects like international business finance, new venture finance and applied security analysis. The curriculum also includes cutting-edge topics like artificial intelligence in business, reflecting the evolving nature of financial decision-making.

What sets Flinders apart for Ridma is its practical, hands-on approach. From using the Harvard Business School Balanced Scorecard in case studies to participating in interactive marketing simulations, the program emphasises real-world applications. A standout experience was her professional placement as part of the course.
“This opportunity allowed me to gain firsthand experience in an Australian business environment, strengthen my employability, and build confidence in my ability to contribute to a professional setting.”
Beyond the classroom, Ridma participated in the Flinders New Venture Institute program, which is the University’s centre for innovation and entrepreneurship. Her dedication and growth were recognised through the prestigious Gold and Platinum Horizon Professional Awards.
A key part of Ridma’s academic journey has been her time at the Flinders City Campus, located in the heart of Adelaide. Conveniently located next to the Adelaide Railway Station, she has enjoyed the vibrant campus’ surroundings, beautiful views and lively atmosphere.
“Studying at the City Campus has given me a modern, peaceful, and supportive environment to focus on my academic journey,” she said.

“Adelaide offers the perfect blend of city life and natural beauty…as a beach lover, I’m in paradise here! There are so many beautiful beaches, and I’m still working through my list of spots to explore.
Adelaide’s multicultural vibe also makes the food scene incredibly diverse and exciting.”
