From Ambition to Action: Suhansi’s Pathway to a Law Career

Originally from Sri Lanka, Suhansi’s journey to Flinders University has been driven by a strong passion for justice and human rights. From an early stage, she knew she wanted a career that would allow her to speak up for those without a voice and contribute to a fairer society. For Suhansi, studying law was the natural path forward. 

Her journey began at Flinders University Academy, where she completed the Foundation Studies program and gained direct entry into the Bachelor of Laws at Flinders University.at Flinders University. 

“I’ve always been passionate about advocating for justice and human rights, especially for those without a voice in society,” Suhansi says.  

“Pursuing a legal career will challenge my intellect and support principles of equality and fairness.”  

Finding the Right Pathway  

While exploring higher education options, Suhansi discovered the Foundation Studies program through university fairs and conversations with university representatives. What stood out was the clarity around pathway options and how seamlessly the program connected to her long-term goal of studying law.  

“They clearly outlined the pathway options, making it easier for me to see how I could advance to my bachelor’s degree,” she explains.  

Beginning her studies at Flinders Academy allowed Suhansi to settle into university life in Adelaide while building the academic foundation needed to succeed in her chosen role.

Building Confidence for a Law Career

The Foundation Studies program played an important role in equipping Suhansi with the academic tools required for legal studies. Through focused coursework, she developed strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills, while also learning how to navigate university expectations and assessments.  

“Studying Foundation Studies at FUA strengthened my academic skills in research, writing, and critical thinking, which are essential for law,” she says. “It also helped me adapt to university life and gain confidence in my studies.”  

For Suhansi, this preparation made the transition into her law degree feel both achievable and empowering.  

“This program restored my confidence and refreshed my knowledge before starting my degree,” she adds.  

Support, Community, and Campus Life  

Support was a defining feature of Suhansi’s experience at Flinders Academy. From approachable lecturers to practical guidance when challenges arose, she felt encouraged to stay focused on her goals.  

“The Academy team has been very supportive,” she says. “Professors were always approachable and helpful. Whenever I faced issues, they provided solutions and guidance.”  

Beyond the classroom, the Bedford Park campus offered a peaceful environment that supported both study and wellbeing. With open green spaces, a tranquil lakeside, and welcoming social areas, Suhansi found the perfect spots to focus, recharge, and connect with others. 

“The Bedford campus is warm and beautiful, surrounded by scenic features like the lake and greenery, creating a peaceful environment,” she says. 

 “The Plaza is my favourite place to relax and catch up with friends between classes.”  

Life in Adelaide as an International Student  

Studying in Adelaide has been an experience Suhansi values deeply. The city’s relaxed pace, cultural diversity, and natural beauty helped her feel at home while adjusting to life in Australia.  

“Deciding to study in Adelaide was one of my best choices,” she says. “The city’s peaceful and joyful vibe, friendly people, and beautiful beaches with stunning sunsets make it special.”  

Adelaide’s diversity has also given her the opportunity to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures. 

“I love its diversity, which allows me to meet people from various cultures and make new friends.”  

A Future in International Law 

Now studying a Bachelor of Laws, Suhansi is focused on building a future in international law. In the years ahead, she hopes to be gaining experience in legal practice or diplomacy, using her knowledge and skills to create meaningful change on a global scale.  

“My career goal is to become an International Lawyer,” she says.  

“I envision myself working in legal practice within five years, whether in a law firm or as a diplomat.” 

Reflecting on her experience, Suhansi describes Flinders Academy as a place that genuinely supports student growth and academic success. 

“The program is well-structured and helps you build strong academic confidence before starting your bachelor’s degree,” she says.
