Research Down Under – Whitaker Fellowship recipient to work with MDRI

Dhara Amin, mechanical engineering senior from the University of Delaware is getting ready to spend a year Down Under to conduct research on spinal disc herniation with the Medical Device Research Institute at Flinders University.

Dhara will join Dr John Costi (Senior Lecturer, Biomechanics Research) at Flinders University to assist him with his research examining the failure mechanisms, or internal strains, that lead up to disc herniation.

After learning about Dr. Costi’s research, Dhara applied for and was awarded a Whitaker International Program Fellowship, a program that sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering overseas to undertake a project that will enhance their careers.

Dhara will join John Costi and the Medical Device Research Institute at Flinders University in late August to begin her research.
