MDRI researcher receives competitive Catalyst Research Grant

Minister for Science and Information Economy Grace Portolesi today (29 January 2014) awarded $120,000 for four grants to early career researchers as part of the Catalyst Research Grants Program.

MDRI member, Dr Egon Perilli (pictured) received $30,000 SA Government funding (with matching funds from Flinders University) for his project titled, “Combining knowledge in joint function and 3D microstructure: towards more advanced knee implants”.

Dr Perilli’s project seeks to develop innovative methods of detecting early onset of osteoarthritis to prolong the life of the affected joint, before and after surgical treatment. If successful, it has the potential to lead to increasingly targeted and successful treatments and custom-designed orthopaedic implants.

Congratulations Egon!
