2020 Education Bursary for Aboriginal Health Professionals

Congratulations to Brooke Vanzati, recipient of the 2020 Education Bursary for Aboriginal Health Professionals

Funded and awarded by the rural health departments of the three South Australian Universities (Flinders University, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia), the bursary is open to any Aboriginal Health Professional, Practitioner or Worker who is currently working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in rural or remote South Australia.

The $2,000 bursary is for an individual to support:

  • continuing professional development including registration for an online education program or conference
  • the costs of higher education
  • the purchase of a computer or books or an internet plan to enable the Aboriginal Health Professional to undertake study.

Brooke Vanzati from Murray Bridge was awarded her bursary by Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA. Brooke was thrilled to receive the bursary, and said it will enable her to purchase a laptop, printer and relevant stationery to complete her Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.

Brooke is studying part-time while working full-time as an Executive Assistant at Moorundi ACCHS in Murray Bridge. With the need to submit assessments online, Brooke says receiving the bursary will give her more independence with her studies which she hopes to complete in May 2021.

The selection panel included academics Donna Quinn and Darryl Cameron from Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA. “Brooke is a worthy recipient,” says Darryl. “She is a hard-working community member and proud Ngarrindjeri woman”.
