Enriching our Educators: CMPH Learning & Teaching Academy Launch

The CMPH Learning and Teaching Academy is committed to providing an inspiring community that supports all teachers as learners, encouraging them to be creative, questioning, collaborative, and to thrive in the evolving education landscape. At this launch, members of the Academy will share their vision and plans, and a panel will discuss ‘Courage and innovation for leaders and learners’.

Speakers and panel members

  • Emeritus Professor David Prideaux: David Prideaux is Emeritus Professor of Medical Education in the Prideaux Discipline of Clinical Education at Flinders University. He is an educator by background with expertise in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation. Professor Prideaux’s research interests focus on curriculum models for sustainable and symbiotic clinical education. He has published widely his field of study and has been Deputy Editor of the journals Medical Education and Advances in Health Sciences Education. He has performed a number of roles in accreditation and assessment at the Australian Medical Council and is currently a Director and Chair of the Assessment Committee.
  • Catherine Turnbull, Chief Child Protection Office, System Leadership and Design,  Department for Health and Wellbeing: Catherine previously held the role of Chief Allied and Scientific Health Officer at SA Health where she was responsible for informing, guiding and leading SA Health’s allied and scientific health services to ensure safe quality care for clients.  She has been instrumental in leading a more effective collaboration between education providers in South Australia and SA Health—there is now a respected partnership in place, with governance structures to support the decision making. In her new role, Catherine will focus on joining current Local Health Network services and implementing improvements to models of care, data systems, infrastructure and workforce.
  • Professor Deb West: Professor West joined Flinders University in August 2017 as Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation). Currently Deb is the Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students). Her focus throughout the years has been on learning and teaching innovation and improvement and in particular the use of educational technology in higher education. She has published extensively in the fields of social work, learning and teaching leadership, the use of educational technology and learning analytics. She has led Australian Research Council grants and Australian Government funded learning and teaching research projects (through the former ALTC and OLT).
  • Dr Olivia O’Donoghue: Olivia is a descendant of the Yankunytjatjara and Narungga Nations people and recently appointed Censor for RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. This will allow her to apply her expertise to supporting educational pathways. Olivia is the Medical Director – Top End Regional Training Hub for Flinders Northern Territory.
  • Professor Briony Forbes: Briony is the Director, FHMRI Research Education and Development Hub and the Head of Discipline of Medical Biochemistry in the College of Medicine and Public Health. She has won the College Teaching Excellence Award and is a leader in the research/teaching nexus in the College and is Chair of the College Higher Degree Research Committee.
