Open Classroom – step inside a Team Based Learning (TBL) session

Tuesday 10 August  |  2:00pm – 4:30pm
Room 3.06-3.09 Health Sciences Lecture Theatre Complex

The CMPH Learning & Teaching Academy Open Classroom Series provides an opportunity for educators to experience and learn from different types of classrooms and teaching. Team Based Learning (TBL) sessions, small group tutorials, lectures and Collaborate sessions will be opened up to showcase ‘teaching in action’ and enable peer observation. The process is collegial and supportive and will provide participants with a safe space to enhance their teaching practice.

The inaugural Open Classroom will be a TBL session presented by A/Prof Karen Lower. Karen teaches human genetics, implemented TBL in the MD program and is involved in many interesting areas of education, including ethics, academic integrity, and now educational research. Karen is passionate about student engagement and strongly believes that nothing can beat a student having an intrinsic motivation to learn, so relevance and context is key in her teaching. TBL is a fantastic way to promote both student engagement and motivation!

N.B. Karen recommends attending 2:15pm to 3:00pm to see the tRAT, clarification and the start of the application session, then return at 4:15pm for a post-session discussion and debrief. Staff, Academic Status holders and clinicians are welcome. Request help to activate your FAN and register online (or call IDS, 82012345)
