Current position: Teaching Focussed Academic for First Year Nursing Students, Victoria University
What led you to study Clinical Education at Flinders University? I was working as casual teacher for Victoria University in 2018 and was impressed by the management and teaching methods of one of the teachers. I asked her about her study background, and it turns out she studied the Master of Clinical Education at Flinders University.
All the course coordinators standout in the way they manage their units and students and although it was an online course, I felt supported at every step, especially through the COVID times.
The course content is relevant to learning and has certainly developed my understanding as a teacher. Not only is the learning focussed on students being at the centre of education, it is also put into practice. I learnt to reflect on own my practices and to address the areas I needed to develop.
How did your time at Flinders University influence you both professionally and personally? Professionally, I am a Teaching Academic and will continue to explore and strengthen my teaching and research skills in this profession.
I have also gained more confidence both in my professional and personal lives. I feel satisfied with the learning outcomes (including management and resolving issues) from this course as they can be implemented at all stages of life and in all environments.
What are the three most important professional attributes that your Flinders degree equipped you with?
- Reflection
- Problem solving skills: interacting with difficult students or staff
- Teaching and management skills
Who has inspired you the most in life? My father has always inspired me. He said: “Learning never stops, you can study and learn new skills at any age. No education goes to waste”.
