Get to know your College: Gerard Reid

When did you start with Flinders and what is your role?

I started way back at the beginning of June 2022, so at the time of writing this, it is nearly two months. I have taken on the position of ICT Manager for Regional and Remote Health. The role works with a small team of committed and engaged technicians in regional SA, Alice Springs, and Darwin. I have been lucky enough to get to many of our campuses in both SA and NT in my short time here.

What journey brought you to this point in your career?

I have worked in Information Technology in various roles, including IT manager, systems adminstor, data analyst and Vet lecturer.   Arriving here at Flinders was a result of me jumping at an opportunity.

What do you like about your job?

So far, it is exciting and challenging. I had the pleasure of experiencing the warm and positive support of our Rural and Remote Health crew, who looked after me when catching Covid a long way from home, finding me somewhere comfortable to stay for the isolation in Renmark.

Can you tell us something about yourself eg. Hobbies, interesting fact or party trick.

Love a dad joke, tragic Collingwood fan.

From the age of 2 through to 4, I lived in regional Zambia, where my parents ran a health clinic. According to them, I was speaking the local lingo before speaking English.   Unfortunately, my very leaky memory has lost all of that language.

Anything else you would like to add?

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like a banana.
