The NT Regional Training Hub recently hosted the inaugural NT Clinical Academy event on 12 October 2023. The event featured a range of engaging speakers, including Dr. Henry Marsh (Neurosurgeon, author, and medical teacher), Associate Professor Emma Kennedy (Medical Education and Training), and Dr. Graham Williams (Senior Staff Specialist Nephrologist and Clinical Dean). They shared their experiences and research insights related to clinical education.
The NT Clinical Academy is a community of practice for medical educators at all stages, focused on research, design, and delivery of medical education and training in both acute care and primary healthcare contexts. The Academy aims to facilitate networking, build individual capacity, promote professional development, and encourage research. It also serves as a sounding board on matters related to medical education in the Northern Territory.
Dr. Gregory McAnulty hosted the event, which was broadcasted from clinical learning sites in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy. Associate Professor Kelum Priyadarshana highlighted the Academy’s potential, emphasizing that it is not tied to any one institution but is open to all medical educators, regardless of affiliation, to advance medical education in the NT.
Participants contributed thought-provoking comments and questions, both during and after the event. Feedback on the night indicated strong support for the Academy’s future.
A preliminary steering committee is already planning the next event and taking steps toward forming a governance committee. For more information, please contact fnt.rth@flinders.edu.au.
