What is your role and what does your work focus on?

I am the Administration Assistant for the Australian Institute for Sleep Medicine, I help to keep the office running while our transdisciplinary team work on improving health through the science of sleep.

Where did you work before joining CMPH?

I was a correspondence officer working in the Capital Programs and Asset Services team within the SA Department for Education.

What journey brought you to this point in your career

I began my career in administration with the SA Medical Education and Training Unit in SA Health. This role allowed me to develop a strong foundation in organisational skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the public sector. I had the opportunity to work with a Ministerial Advisory Council which aimed to improve the quality of medical education and training in South Australia. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that played a role in shaping the future of healthcare professionals in Australia. This experience not only honed my administrative skills but also instilled in me a sense of purpose and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the community.

I transitioned into a role in correspondence within the SA Department for Education. This position allowed me to further refine my communication skills, as I was responsible for reviewing and time management of Ministerial and Chief Executive information requests coming from various stakeholders, including the public. Effective communication became a key aspect of my role, and I learned to navigate complex educational matters with clarity and empathy. As my career has progressed, I began to seek a change that would provide a better work-life balance and bring me closer to home. It’s at this point that I found this opportunity with the Australian Institute for Sleep Health. The chance to work in a role that leverages my administrative and communication skills while affording me the convenience of being closer to home aligns perfectly with my aspirations.

What is something you love most about your work?

One of the things I love most is the opportunity to design and refine administrative systems and processes. There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from creating efficient and organised systems to streamline tasks and improve overall productivity. I take pride in designing intuitive and easy to navigate systems, which not only enhance the overall work experience for my colleagues but also contributes to the success of the organisation.

How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?

I love reading and listening to audiobooks while my hands are busy knitting clothes or crocheting cute toys for my husband Ben and our 2 kids. We also love to explore our local parks and beaches with our Labrador, Bailey.
