Get to know your College: Rachel Gein

We’re thrilled to welcome Rachel, who will focus on aligning topic-level curriculum with course-level outcomes to ensure a consistent and supportive student experience. With extensive experience in curriculum development and student administration at Flinders since 2018, Rachel brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. Outside work, she enjoys family time, visiting cafés and playgrounds, and recently competed in the Pan Pacific Masters Games.

What is your role and what does your work focus on?

My role is Project Officer, Curriculum Mapping. My work will focus on reviewing and mapping the curriculum of topics and their alignment in courses. I will be looking from a holistic overview at how topic-level curriculum aligns with course-level learning outcomes and ensuring students are receiving a consistent experience across their required topics, in addition to how their experience and the support they receive while completing their course prepares them for life as a graduate.

Where did you work before joining CMPH?

Before this role, I worked in the Office of Academic Quality and Enhancement in the Curriculum Services team, where I supported curriculum change and development for various colleges. I have been working in this role since 2018 and before that worked in Student Administration Services roles in both the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

What journey brought you to this point in your career?

I have worked in a variety of roles at Flinders commencing in operations support, then taking opportunities in student administration services and then curriculum development. I think my combination of experience in curriculum development and knowledge of student perspectives has led me to this role where I can utilise both skill sets and perspectives.

What is something you love most about your work?

I love supporting complex curriculum development, it can be a bit like solving a puzzle and I really enjoy knowing that I’m supporting Colleges to improve their content and the learning experience for their students.

How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?

I spend my spare time with my husband and my 2-year-old, we enjoy going to cafés and playgrounds and we recently returned from a holiday in Queensland where I competed in the Pan Pacific Masters games.
