From Renmark to the Barossa, Murray Bridge to Victor Harbor and Mt Gambier, our new cohort of MD3 students participated in an action packed first week of their rural placement year.
36 excited Flinders University students were welcomed to their new campuses, met staff and spent time with IPE and clinical educators.
They scrubbed and gowned, learned to suture among other introductory clinical simulation sessions. Students also spent time in their allocated medical clinics where they were able to observe patient consults with their GP supervisors.
Lighter activities included “treasure” hunts across their new regions to familiarise them with their new hometowns and a welcome dinner with their support teams.
In the Barossa, the annual Kegel Cup, always a competitive highlight and this year was won by a student from the University of Adelaide.
All are settling into their clinics and study programs well and we wish them all the best for their rural year and look forward to seeing them grow their clinical skills and medical knowledge as the year progresses.
