Meet Paul Huddleston – a Mayali/Ngandi man born and raised in Katherine, who has recently joined the Rural and Remote Health Team as an Indigenous Engagement and Project Officer.
What is your role and what does your work focus on?
My role as Indigenous Engagement and Project Officer focuses on The Youth Engagement in Allied Health Project. I’m based in Katherine at the Katherine Hospital (O’Keefe House).
Where did you work and / or study before joining CMPH / Flinders?
I studied a Cert IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Care Practice at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education and graduated in 2020. I have also worked with Flinders with the eGFR research study.
What inspired you to pursue a career in your current field, and how has your passion evolved over time?
I’m passionate about Aboriginal health and closing the gap.
Can you share a memorable experience or project from your career that had a significant impact on you or the community?
Yes, graduating back in 2020 was a memorable experience for myself and my community as there aren’t many male Aboriginal Health Practitioners in the health field, and for me to show my community and other male friends and family that there are opportunities out there in health was very special.
How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?
I’m always spending time with family having a BBQ and yarning which happens almost every weekend, but if I wanted some me time I would probably just relax and put some Netflix on.
