What is your role and what does your work focus on?
As a Facilities Support Officer, I play a hands-on role in creating a comfortable environment for both students and staff. My work primarily focuses on supporting Year 3 and 4 Medical students living in our accommodation houses—making sure their needs are met, the homes are furnished, and everything is in working order to support their studies and well-being. I also oversee the day-to-day facilities on campus, ensuring supplies are stocked and the space runs smoothly for everyone. It’s a rewarding role that combines organisation, problem-solving, and a strong focus on people—something I really enjoy.
Where did you work and / or study before joining CMPH / Flinders?
I spent 20 years working in the Public Library sector within Local Government, where I focused on programming and development for children and youth—a space where I truly found my passion for community engagement. Throughout my career, I’ve been committed to growing both personally and professionally, studying online through various training organisations while working full-time. I’ve completed a Diploma in Library and Information Services, a Diploma of Youth Work, and I’m currently studying a Certificate IV in Mental Health. Lifelong learning and supporting young people go hand-in-hand for me, and I’m grateful to bring both experience and heart to the work I do.
What inspired you to pursue a career in your current field, and how has your passion evolved over time?
I’m passionate about empowering and educating young people within the community. After reaching a point where I felt I had grown as much as I could within the Local Government sector, I was ready for a new challenge—one that would allow me to continue making a difference while playing to my strengths in organisation and facilitation. Since stepping into this new role in January 2025, I’ve hit the ground running and embraced every opportunity. It’s been exactly what I needed—and more—to feel purposeful in my work.
Can you share a memorable experience or project from your career that had a significant impact on you or the community?
In my previous role, I was involved in organising Youth Week each year in our community.
I coordinated an event called LOUD in the LIBRAR,Y which was one of the highlights of my previous role—it was exciting, meaningful, and full of energy! Bringing over 200 young people together for a night of live music, dance, games, and connection, all while introducing them to local support services in a fun and approachable way, reminded me just how powerful youth engagement can be. It inspired me, motivated me, and reaffirmed my passion for making a difference in young people’s lives.
How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?
Outside of work, I play soccer for the Senior Women’s team at Blue Lake Soccer Club, where I also volunteer my time managing publicity and running the club’s social media pages—so weekends in winter are always full-on and full of fun! I’m also a big nature lover and enjoy spending time exploring our beautiful lakes and bushland, especially when it involves flowers and plants. When I’m not outdoors or on the field, you’ll likely find me out and about with friends, dining out or off on a new adventure!
