The Flinders SA Regional Training Hub supported the recent Emergency Medicine Night, held in Mount Gambier on — an evening dedicated to hands-on clinical learning, collaboration, and rural healthcare excellence.
Across five interactive stations, students rotated through practical workshops in prehospital paramedicine, trauma airway management, post-operative mobility, IV cannulation, and choking response. Each session emphasised teamwork, clinical reasoning, and the real-world challenges of delivering care in rural settings.

This event would not have been possible without the support of facilitators who shared their time, experience, and expertise:
- Desi Jordan (SAAS Paramedic) – Demonstrating the vital paramedic role in connecting community and hospital care.
- Kael Thomas (Physiotherapist) – Guiding students through safe mobilisation and post-operative recovery teamwork.
- Peter Burns (Clinical Nurse) & Scott Milan (GP) – Leading trauma airway and cervical spine management training.
- Neelima Madey & Jamie Whan (Registered Nurses) – Delivering hands-on IV cannulation and sterile technique practice.
- Lauren Kennedy (Emergency Medicine Specialist) & Mitchell Wilson (Paramedicine Graduate) – Leading workshops on choking response and airway safety.
A special acknowledgement goes to Jiyon John (SARM Year 1 student), whose behind-the-scenes coordination and liaison work was pivotal to the night’s success.
The event was made possible thanks to generous support from:
- Flinders SA Regional Training Hub – providing consumables and catering support
- Flinders University Rural Health Society, Mount Gambier Medical Student Society, and Flinders University Critical Care Society – offering financial and logistical assistance
Congratulations to all who contributed to this fantastic showcase of rural clinical education in action.
