NT Prevocational Clinical Educator of the Year 2025: Dr Dayna Duncan

Congratulations to Dr Dayna Duncan who has been celebrated as Prevocational Clinical Educator of the Year for the Northern Territory at the Australia and New Zealand Prevocational Medical Education Forum. The award recognises her outstanding contribution to junior doctor training and support across the NT.

Dr Duncan is an ACRRM Rural Generalist Trainee currently completing her Advanced Skills Training in Academic Practice with a focus on Medical Education. Through the role of Medical Education Registrar, Dr Duncan works between the Flinders’ NT Medical Program and NT Health to train doctors in the Territory, for the Territory. She has played a leading role in strengthening prevocational medical education at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Regional Hospitals. In 2025, Dr Duncan designed and implemented a structured, NT-specific education program that supports PGY1 and PGY2 doctors with a strong focus on practical skills, Territory contexts and safe clinical practice.

Dr Duncan has played a leading role in strengthening prevocational medical education in the Top End

Over her four years of training so far in the Territory, Dr Duncan has revitalised and lead the NT Junior Medical Officer Forum, Alice Springs Hospital RMO Society, and Top End Trainees Representative and Support Group. In these roles she’s implemented new pathways for trainee feedback and quality improvement in prevocational training. Alongside her education leadership, Dr Duncan continues demanding clinical work while consistently making time to teach and mentor junior colleagues on the wards.

Dr Duncan is widely respected for her commitment to wellbeing, mentorship and equitable rural training. Through peer mentoring, advocacy and national leadership roles, she ensures junior doctors are supported, heard and well prepared for practice in the Territory. This recognition reflects the lasting impact of her leadership on the NT medical workforce and the future of medical education in the region.
