Recently, the Flinders SA Regional Training Hub hosted its annual Medical Career Pathways Information Evening in Mount Gambier—an engaging and informative event designed to support pre-final, final year medical students and prevocational doctors as they consider their future careers.
Representatives from 12 medical specialties shared insights into their chosen fields, offering an honest look at day-to-day practice, career pathways, and the rewards and challenges of each discipline. Through personal stories, experiences, and reflections, presenters provided valuable perspectives on what a career in their specialty—and in rural medicine—can look like.
The evening concluded with a memorable presentation, Memoirs of a Country Doctor, by Dr Trevor Burchall, who offered a thoughtful and entertaining reflection on his career in rural practice.
Attendees also had the opportunity to explore a wide range of specialty college resources, connect with presenters, and enjoy a relaxed evening of conversation and networking.
