Our Northern Territory team recently represented Flinders University at the Compass Conference in Darwin, bringing research, expertise and plenty of NT health education spirit to the program.

The conference opened with a workshop from Debby Mauger and Dr Sam Heard on building a community of practice in clinical education. From there, Flinders staff featured across the program: Melba Ridd presented “How NT clinical supervisors make supervision training matter”; Associate Professor Emma Kennedy, Dr Siobhan Hensey and Associate Professor Kishan Pandithage presented a poster on “Strengthening Consultation Skills Learning for Health Professional Training in the NT Context”; and Leigh Moore and Yiting Han, on behalf of the Journeys research team, presented “Where do they come from, where do they go? Placement to practice journeys.”

Flinders also joined one of the conference’s headline discussions, “Heidi Will See You Now: A Hypothetical NT Healthcare Conversation,” as part of a panel alongside keynote speakers Prof Bart Currie, Dr Kelly Banz, Dr Zoran Bolevich and Dr Dinesh Palipana.

Beyond the sessions, the team helped bring the social program to life. Melba Ridd MC’d the Health Professional of the Year Awards and Emma Kennedy performed with the Cheeky Docs band at the awards dinner. Delegates could also drop by the Flinders stall throughout the conference to connect with the team and learn more about our programs and research.
