Dr Dayna Duncan, Medical Education Registrar with Flinders University’s NT Medical Program, has been named the Australian Medical Association’s (AMA) 2026 Doctor in Training of the Year.

The awards recognises her leadership in medical education and her advocacy for rural and remote health in the Northern Territory.

Through her role as Medical Education Registrar, Dr Duncan works between Flinders’ NT Medical Program and NT Health to train doctors in the Territory, for the Territory.

In her final year of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) training, Dr Duncan has introduced new approaches to education within the Royal Darwin Hospital training program and championed trainee-led orientation for junior doctors. She also serves as Vice President of AMA NT and works part-time at Danila Dilba Health Services, an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

Reflecting on the award, Dr Duncan credited the NT community for shaping her career, noting that doctors in the Territory work not just with patients, but on the systems and structures that determine health outcomes.
