Flinders University medical students have taken home the inaugural Road to Rural (R2R) Medicine Cup, hosted by Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA) in Hahndorf on Saturday 17 October.
The competition brought together 25 medical students from Flinders University and Adelaide University, with 15 Flinders students competing against 10 Adelaide University students in a close contest. Flinders secured the win by earning the most medals across the day.
RDWA’s R2R Medicine Cup gives medical students the opportunity to develop their clinical skills, experience the challenges of rural emergency medicine and learn more about careers in rural generalism through a series of practical, emergency-focused clinical simulation activities.
Working in university teams, students progressed through a range of clinical simulation stations under the supervision of experienced Rural Generalists. The activities challenged students to demonstrate clinical knowledge, accuracy, efficiency and teamwork in scenarios relevant to rural general practice and emergency care.
The event also showcased the breadth of practice and career opportunities available in rural medicine, highlighting the varied skills rural doctors use to provide care to their communities.
Congratulations to the Flinders University team on winning the inaugural R2R Medicine Cup, and to all students who took part in this valuable opportunity to build their skills and explore the possibilities of a career in rural medicine.
Thank you to RDWA and the supervising Rural Generalists for supporting the event and helping inspire the next generation of rural doctors.
