Professor Fran Baum spoke at the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia annual symposium at the ANU Canberra Levelling up: ‘The Meaning and Social Impacts of Inequality’ last week on the topic of action to reduce health inequities. She made the case for greater regulation for health and also improved efficiency of taxation collection to increase the fiscal space for action on the social determinants of health. She also called on the NH&MRC to devote more of its resources to funding research on the social determinants of health equity.
